The Emirate of the Eastern Province was established in 1331 AH, when King Abdulaziz - may God have mercy on him - appointed Prince Abdullah bin Jiluwi bin Turki Al Saud - may God have mercy on him - as Emir to administer the affairs of the Eastern Province, in the month of Jumada al-Ula. Following his death - may God have mercy on him - on 4 Sha'ban 1354 AH, he was succeeded by his son, Prince Saud bin Abdullah bin Jiluwi - may God have mercy on him - during whose tenure the seat of the Emirate moved from Hofuf to Dammam, and the region's administrative name became "the Eastern Province" on 25 Rajab 1372 AH, having previously been known as the Province of Al-Ahsa. After his death in 1386 AH, Prince Abdulmohsen bin Abdullah bin Jiluwi - may God have mercy on him - was appointed and administered the region until 10/6/1405 AH. On 10 Jumada al-Thani 1405 AH, a Royal Order was issued appointing His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Fahd bin Abdulaziz - may God have mercy on him - as Emir of the Eastern Province, until 2/3/1434 AH. On 1 Rabi' al-Awwal 1434 AH, a Royal Order was issued appointing His Royal Highness Prince Saud bin Nayef bin Abdulaziz - may God protect him - as Emir of the Eastern Province.
