Establishment
The Eastern Province Emirate was established in 1331 AH when King Abdulaziz - may God have mercy on him - appointed Prince Abdullah bin Jalawi bin Turki Al Saud - may God have mercy on him - as Emir to manage the affairs of the Eastern Province in the month of Jumada al-Ula. After his death - may God have mercy on him - on 4 Sha'ban 1354 AH, he was succeeded by his son, Prince Saud bin Abdullah bin Jalawi - may God have mercy on him. During his reign, the Emirate's headquarters moved from Hofuf to Dammam, and the administrative name of the region became (Eastern Province) on 25 Rajab 1372 AH, after it had been known as the Al-Ahsa Province. After his death in 1386 AH, Prince Abdulmohsen bin Abdullah bin Jalawi - may God have mercy on him - was appointed, who managed its affairs until 10/6/1405 AH. On 10 Jumada al-Thani 1405 AH, the Royal Decree was issued appointing His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Fahd bin Abdulaziz - may God have mercy on him - as Emir of the Eastern Province until 2/3/1434 AH. On 1 Rabi' al-Awwal 1434 AH A royal decree has been issued appointing His Royal Highness Prince Saud bin Nayef bin Abdulaziz – may God protect him – as Governor of the Eastern Province.
The Eastern Province includes the city of Dammam, the capital, and twelve governorates, which in turn comprise 115 centers. The population of the Eastern Province exceeds five million.
