His Royal Highness Prince Saud bin Nayef bin Abdulaziz, Governor of the Eastern Province and Chairman of the Region’s Traffic Safety Committee, sponsored today, Sunday, at the Emirate headquarters, the first edition of the Traffic Safety Excellence Award for the Eastern Province’s governorates. The ceremony was attended by His Royal Highness Prince Saud bin Bandar bin Abdulaziz, Deputy Governor of the Eastern Province and Deputy Chairman of the Committee, along with a number of senior officials and leaders in the region.
HRH the Governor commended the achievements made in traffic safety across the Eastern Province, which resulted from coordinated efforts among various relevant entities. His Highness emphasized the importance of continuing to develop initiatives and programs that enhance traffic safety, reduce accidents, and protect lives and property. He noted that the award serves as an incentive for governorates to pursue excellence and positive competition, improve performance, and translate traffic safety objectives into tangible results that help reduce accidents, fatalities, and injuries and enhance road-user safety.
HRH the Governor congratulated the winning governorates, praising their efforts and results that contributed to improving traffic safety indicators. He called on the remaining governorates to continue their efforts and adopt impactful initiatives that enhance traffic safety, promote positive competition, achieve the award’s objectives, and improve road safety.
Abdullah bin Saad Al-Rajhi, Secretary-General of the Eastern Province Traffic Safety Committee, explained that the award builds on the region’s track record of adopting impactful initiatives and promoting positive competition among governorates. He noted that the Eastern Province has achieved tangible improvements in traffic safety indicators over recent years, supported by the guidance of HRH the Governor and the follow-up of HRH the Deputy Governor.
Al-Rajhi added that since 2012, the Eastern Province has reduced traffic fatalities by more than 75% and serious injuries by more than 81%. The region has also launched several pioneering initiatives that have received local and regional recognition, including the “Qiyadati” program, which won first place in the Middle East in 2016 for using technology to advance traffic safety, as well as the Ideal Driver Award and, most recently, the Traffic Safety Excellence Award for the Eastern Province’s governorates, the first award of its kind among the Kingdom’s regions.
