His Royal Highness Prince Saud bin Nayef bin Abdulaziz, Governor of the Eastern Province, sponsored at the Emirate's Diwan today, Monday, the honoring ceremony for distinguished beekeepers and participating entities in the "Mangrove Honey" initiative in its fifth season, organized by the branch of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture in the Eastern Province.
HRH the Governor of the Eastern Province emphasized that the support and attention the agricultural and environmental sectors receive from the wise leadership—may God support it—have contributed to enhancing qualitative initiatives that combine environmental preservation with natural resource development. HRH pointed out the importance of continuing efforts that support the agricultural sector, preserve environmental diversity, and achieve sustainable utilization of the natural assets that characterize the region.
The Director General of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture branch in the Eastern Province, Eng. Fahad bin Ahmed Al-Hamzi, delivered a speech in which he confirmed that this recognition comes as an extension of the branch's and its affiliated entities' efforts to develop the agricultural and environmental sectors, support beekeepers, and adopt modern technologies. This contributes to boosting productivity, enhancing food security, and ensuring the sustainability of natural resources, in line with the targets of the "Saudi Green Initiative" and "Middle East Green Initiative" launched by His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince and Prime Minister—may God protect him—through expanding the cultivation of mangrove trees along the coasts of the Arabian Gulf and preserving coastal ecosystems.
Al-Hamzi added that the "Mangrove Honey" initiative has transformed into a national success story, embodying the efforts of Eastern Province beekeepers and their ability to produce high-quality, qualitative honey that achieved a notable presence in local, regional, and international forums, contributing to honey production, economic diversification, and localizing this industry.
Al-Hamzi explained that the initiative was launched in 2021 under the generous patronage of HRH the Governor of the Eastern Province across two locations on the Arabian Gulf coasts, with the participation of 17 beekeepers and 1,500 beehives, producing 2.5 tons of honey. The initiative witnessed rapid growth through 2025, expanding to cover more than 6 sites with 41 beekeepers and 4,169 beehives, while total production exceeded 20 tons, achieving a growth rate of over 700% compared to its launch year.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, HRH the Governor of the Eastern Province honored the distinguished beekeepers and participating entities in the initiative.
