His Royal Highness Prince Saud bin Naif bin Abdulaziz, Governor of the Eastern Province, received officials from the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development branch in the Eastern Province at the Emirate headquarters, where they presented an overview of the Ministry’s efforts to combat begging.
His Royal Highness the Governor of the Eastern Province commended the Ministry’s efforts to address begging and its underlying causes through social protection, care, rehabilitation, and empowerment programs, in coordination with relevant entities. He emphasized the importance of raising public awareness of the distinction between genuine financial need and the practice of begging. His Royal Highness noted that those in need are entitled to seek and receive assistance through official channels and approved programs, ensuring their dignity and that support reaches eligible beneficiaries while helping prevent the exploitation of need through begging.
Mohammed bin Saud Al Sammari, Director General of the Ministry’s branch in the Eastern Province, explained that the Ministry adopts an integrated approach to combating begging through care, rehabilitation, and empowerment programs, alongside coordination with relevant entities. He noted that these efforts strengthen preventive measures and raise public awareness of the risks associated with begging, emphasizing that coordination among relevant entities is essential to addressing both the practice and its underlying causes.
Al Sammari added that the Ministry continues to strengthen the social protection system and expand empowerment pathways. He noted that since the implementation of the Developed Social Security System in 2022, more than 473,000 beneficiaries across the Kingdom have been empowered through training, qualification, employment, and economic empowerment programs, including more than 57,000 beneficiaries in the Eastern Province. He also highlighted the leadership’s continued commitment to empowering individuals and preserving their dignity.
Al Sammari expressed his appreciation to His Royal Highness the Governor of the Eastern Province for his continued support of the Ministry’s branch in the region, affirming that this support reflects His Royal Highness’s commitment to enhancing the quality of services provided to beneficiaries.
